About pollen.ie
Our Mission
pollen.ie is Ireland's dedicated pollen forecast service, providing accurate daily predictions for all 32 Irish counties. Our mission is to help hay fever and allergy sufferers plan their activities around pollen levels, making life easier during the challenging pollen season.
Our Data Sources
We combine data from world-class meteorological services to deliver reliable forecasts:
- Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service (CAMS) — Europe's leading source for atmospheric composition information, providing pollen data.
- Open-Meteo — High-resolution weather forecasts including temperature, precipitation, wind, and humidity.
Understanding Pollen Levels
Our forecasts track three main types of pollen:
- Tree Pollen — Peaks February to May, including birch and alder.
- Grass Pollen — The most common allergen, peaks May to July.
- Weed Pollen — Including mugwort and ragweed, peaks in late summer.
Pollen levels are categorized as Low, Moderate, High, or Very High based on established thresholds measured in grains per cubic metre of air.
How Weather Affects Pollen
Weather plays a significant role in pollen levels. Warm, dry, and windy days typically see higher counts as pollen spreads more easily. Rain can wash pollen from the air, providing temporary relief. High humidity can keep pollen at ground level. This is why we include weather forecasts alongside pollen data — so you can plan effectively.
